Stylist Rakelle Maurici tells the history of vintage US Sports brand ‘47’ and how they went from selling pennants to street cool sweats, T's and other iconic sports clothing for men and women.
47 Brand is a unisex sports and lifestyle brand that began in Boston 65 years ago. Italian twin brothers Henry and Arthur D’Angelo and co-founders of the company left Italy at the age of 12 for America where they spent their time shining shoes and selling newspapers.
Which is where the brand begun – hence the name ‘47’ in 1947 they started making banners for the local sports fans of Boston’s Red Sox. The success of this led them to opening a store and went onto selling the pennants across the country; slowly evolving into the sale of licensed baseball caps. In 2005 they collaborated with a clothing brand that produced sports apparel under license. As Banner Supply Company had the same values as 47 Brand of quality, comfort and durability the combined force went on leaps and bounds and became one of the most sought after lifestyle brands in both in and out of American sports. Today the brand offers college and preppy style clothing and headwear which is beyond just sport.
Their latest collection for Autumn (or Fall for you US readers) as you can imagine by the title ‘College collection’ that beanie hats, wool caps and snapbacks do not go amiss. Something that I can imagine in an American High school movie...with a yellow bus driving by. Famous football teams of ‘Chicago Bulls’ ‘New York Rangers’ and ‘Celtics’ logos on Tees, Sweaters and Baseball jackets tarnishing the company with the iconic sport and lifestyle heritage.comments powered by Disqus
